National Director's July 2018 Update
Updated On: Aug 214, 2018

August 1, 2018

Dear Members:

In July 2018 your officers and representatives were very busy at both Alaska Airlines (ASA) and Southwest Airlines (SWA).

On July 19, 2018, 83.57% of the AMFA–ASA membership voted overwhelmingly to reject the AMFA-ASA and Virgin America (VX) Transition and Seniority Integration Agreements Package. Thank you for recognizing the importance of your careers; kudos to your unity and tremendous involvement in voicing your position. Immediately following the tally the Negotiating Committee developed a survey seeking feedback to help guide them to pursue an agreement worthy of your approval. Survey instructions were mailed on August 1. Please stay tuned for further details regarding future meeting dates with the Company.

I would also like to thank the Legacy Virgin America employees for their involvement and voter turnout of 81.01% participation, whom voted to accept the Seniority Integration Agreement.

The AMFA–SWA Negotiating Committee has commenced the Contract Tentative Agreement (TA) Roadshow, which is being conducted to provide the membership with detailed information regarding the TA and to give you the opportunity to ask questions before the ballots are mailed. The roadshow includes visits to 13 stations as well as Zoom meetings in St Louis, Milwaukee, Kansas City, Philadelphia, and Nashville. We are currently in the third consecutive week of the roadshow and have had exceptional attendance so far during these meetings – participation/attendance has packed many rooms. I extend again my admiration and respect for the patience and professionalism of our members during this extensive negotiation process. Please use this time wisely. I encourage you to review the TA and all Negotiations Updates on the Southwest Airlines News and Updates page of the AMFA National website.

We will remain unified as we educate you on the contents of this package. I understand many of you feel you are entitled to a better station protections and compensation package. Understand the industry is constantly and rapidly changing: Delta Airlines released to their AMTs via memo that they will again be given an increase of 3% in wages effective October 1, 2018, and American Airlines is on the brink of offering their AMTs more increases in wages and benefits as well.

I ask you to stay engaged with your union updates and officers.  For more carrier specific updates and further information regarding AMFA and the airline industry, please visit the AMFA National Website at www.AMFANational.org. Our most determined efforts will only succeed with your continued support and participation – please stay informed.

Sincerely,

Bret Oestreich
National Director
