Call to Action Regarding CARES Act PSP Funding Extension

Dear Members:

We are less than two weeks from the CARES Act Payroll Support Program (PSP) end date of September 30, 2020.  This program has guaranteed wages for airline employees during this period of severely depressed demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while avoiding layoffs that have been announced as being necessary by several major airlines.

AMFA, along with other unions, continues to support a six-month extension of the PSP through March 31, 2021, with the intended goal of keeping aircraft mechanics and related from losing wages or facing furloughs while demand rebounds; however, nothing yet has come to fruition as the clock gets closer to striking zero.

Although there is support from Congress and the White House, we need your help to get this across the finish line.  Please take the time to contact your Congressional delegation and let them know that you support a clean PSP extension for airline employees.

You can do this by going to the website www.congress.gov/members for your Senators ─ remember that each state has two and they both represent you. For your Representative, go to www.house.gov/representatives and look in the upper right hand corner where you can type in your zip code and it will list your Representative.  Go to their website and find their contact page, where you can call or email.  Calling is preferable, but feel free to utilize any medium you feel comfortable with.

The message is simple. Tell them that you are an aircraft mechanic (or appropriate job title) and want them to support a clean six-month extension of the PSP to support the airline industry.  Clean basically means that the extension would be carried out in the same manner and under the same terms as the original PSP.  Time is of the essence, so do not hesitate getting involved.

Please continue to stay engaged by reading the monthly legislative updates, and thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Justin W. Madden
Legislative Affairs Director
